چکیده

It is known that for all monotone functions f : {0, 1}n → {0, 1}, if x ∈ {0, 1}n is chosen uniformly at random and y is obtained from x by flipping each of the bits of x independently with probability = n, then P[f(x) 6= f(y)] < cn, for some c > 0. Previously, the best construction of monotone functions satisfying P[fn(x) 6= fn(y)] ≥ δ, where 0 < δ < 1/2, required ≥ c(δ)n, where α = 1 − ln 2/ ln 3 = 0.36907. . . , and c(δ) > 0. We improve this result by achieving for every 0 < δ < 1/2, P[fn(x) 6= fn(y)] ≥ δ, with: • = c(δ)n for any α < 1/2, using the recursive majority function with arity k = k(α); • = c(δ)n logn for t = log2 √ π/2 = .3257. . . , using an explicit recursive majority function with increasing arities; and, • = c(δ)n, non-constructively, following a probabilistic CNF construction due to Talagrand. We also study the problem of achieving the best dependence on δ in the case that the noise rate is at least a small constant; the results we obtain are tight to within logarithmic factors.

GENERALIZED POSITIVE DEFINITE FUNCTIONS AND COMPLETELY MONOTONE FUNCTIONS ON FOUNDATION SEMIGROUPS

A general notion of completely monotone functionals on an ordered Banach algebra B into a proper H*-algebra A with an integral representation for such functionals is given. As an application of this result we have obtained a characterization for the generalized completely continuous monotone functions on weighted foundation semigroups. A generalized version of Bochner’s theorem on foundation se...

Economical Design of Double Variables Acceptance Sampling With Inspection Errors

The paper presents an economical model for double variable acceptance sampling with inspection errors. Taguchi cost function is used as acceptance cost while quality specification functions are normal with known variance. An optimization model is developed for double variables acceptance sampling scheme at the presence of inspection errors with either constant or monotone value functions. The m...

Dynamical systems analysis of stack filters

We study classes of dynamical systems that can be obtained by constructing recursive networks with monotone Boolean functions. Stack filters in nonlinear signal processing are special cases of such systems. We show an analytical connection between coefficients used to optimize the statistical properties of stack filters and their sensitivity, a measure that can be used to characterize the dynam...

Computational Applications Of Noise Sensitivity

This thesis is concerned with the study of the noise sensitivity of boolean functions and its applications in theoretical computer science. Noise sensitivity is defined as follows: Let f be a boolean function and let ∈ (0, 12) be a parameter. Suppose a uniformly random string x is picked, and y is formed by flipping each bit of x independently with probability . Then the noise sensitivity of f ...
